January 2026 Rankings

(January 2026 Cozy Mystery Reading Wrap-Up and Rankings)

This section ranks every cozy mystery I read in January 2026, ordered from my #1 favorite of the month down to the book that ranked lowest for this specific reading period.

These rankings are based entirely on personal enjoyment, cozy atmosphere, memorability, and how well each book fit my January reading mood. A lower ranking doesn’t mean a book wasn’t good—it simply means it didn’t connect with me as strongly as others during this month.

January had a strong lineup overall, so many of these books were separated by very small margins. Seasonal vibes, food-forward comfort, familiar series, and small-town charm all played a big role in how everything ultimately stacked up.

(From Favorite to Least Favorite This Month)

How to Read These Rankings

    • Top 5: Standout reads I’d easily recommend first
    • Middle rankings: Solid, enjoyable cozies that delivered comfort and charm
    • Lower rankings: Still cozy and readable, but less memorable or not as aligned with my January mood

This ranking format lets me look back at each month and quickly see what types of cozy mysteries resonated most at that point in the year—while still honoring the fact that every book on this list contributed to a comforting reading month.

The Cozy Patterns I Noticed This Month

  • Foodie Cozies Dominated (and I loved it)

Between cookies, cake, tea, candy, ice cream, blueberries, and lemonade… January basically read like a snack table. Food-forward cozies were the perfect winter comfort pick.

Holiday cozies still hit in January

I’m officially calling it: Christmas cozies don’t expire on December 26th. Snowy settings + festive towns are still peak cozy in early January.

Animal sidekicks were everywhere (in the best way)

From a telepathic bunny to a giant mastiff to a doxie detective and an arctic fox… January had serious “pet sidekick energy.”

    Series comfort kept things easy

This was a strong month for continuing series and sticking with familiar cozy rhythms.

Looking Ahead to February 2026

  • February’s reading plans lean heavily into comfort listening, food-centered cozies, and series I already trust—exactly the kind of reading rhythm I crave during the heart of winter. With shorter days and slower routines, I’m focusing on mysteries that feel immersive, familiar, and easy to sink into.

A mix of classic mystery elegance and modern cozy charm anchors the month. Death on the Nile brings timeless glamour and layered clue work, offering a slower, more atmospheric listening experience. Alongside it are small-town cozies filled with family tension, community drama, and emotionally grounded mysteries that feel personal without being heavy.

Food-forward stories are once again a major theme, from chocolate shops and dumpling houses to tearooms, bakeries, and fiber arts conferences complete with cookies and knitting. Several picks revolve around events gone wrong—Mother’s Day brunches, bridal showers, charity fundraisers, reunions, and conferences—creating that perfect cozy setup where secrets surface in public settings.

Bookish comfort also plays a strong role this month, with bookstore- and library-adjacent mysteries that balance warm community vibes with deeper emotional threads. Familiar series returns, especially those featuring tea shops, hat makers, knitters, and close-knit towns, promise the kind of steady, comforting storytelling that makes February reading feel both cozy and satisfying.

Overall, February 2026 is shaping up to be a month of intentional, comforting listens—stories that prioritize atmosphere, character relationships, and gentle intrigue over speed. It’s less about chasing novelty and more about settling into cozy consistency, one well-loved mystery at a time.
